It’s time to meet Ekta Teredesai, a dedicated professional with a wealth of regulatory/quality assurance expertise and a vibrant life beyond IDA.
Q: Tell us about your background, your roots, and your journey with IDA so far.
A: I’m a pharmacy graduate, born and raised in the vibrant city of Mumbai. My journey with IDA began in 2006 as a regulatory affairs officer, and over the years, I’ve evolved into the role of a Unit Manager supporting various QA-related activities. It’s gratifying to know through my work I have been able to contribute towards improving access to quality medicines in the LMICs. IDA presented me with the opportunity to work with a dynamic and culturally diversified group united for the same mission.
Q: Ekta, outside the dynamic world of IDA, what brings you joy? Any family traditions, hobbies, or favourite pastimes?
A: I am a traveller, love to new places and learn about the rich culture of every city/country. I enjoy watching thriller web series, listening to music, dancing to Bollywood hip-hop and making reels with my daughter. Spending time with my daughter is my greatest stress buster. Also, nothing like a good book to give company on days I choose to relax at home.
Q: What drives your passion for working in the field of global health?
A: Working in global healthcare empowers me to serve those who need it most. It is satisfying to know my work directly contributes to saving and improving the quality of life for individuals and communities around the world. The field of global health is constantly evolving presenting numerous challenges and opportunities for growth. This dynamic and evolving environment is intellectually stimulating and provides me with a sense of continuous learning and rewarding professional growth.
Q: In your perspective, why is NCDconnect important, and what gaps does it fill?
A: NCDs are a leading cause of death in many countries, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. NCDconnect serves as a cost-effective, one-stop shop for medicines, medical supplies, and diagnostics, alleviating economic burdens on healthcare systems. By promoting equitable access to healthcare services, NCDconnect addresses disparities caused by socioeconomic status, access to healthcare, and environmental conditions. It acts as a bridge to achieving SDG 3, universal health coverage, and contributes to reducing the incidence of NCDs.
Q: What goals do you have for the NCDconnect platform, and what impact do you hope to achieve through your work?
A: My personal goal is to ensure safe and effective medicines are made available on the platform for wider dissemination. With access to reliable information and availability of quality medicines/medical supplies, buyers can make informed decisions and we can strengthen the preventive healthcare systems along with providing treatment options. Ultimately, through NCDconnect, I aspire to make meaningful contributions towards public health and safety.
