As we continue to unravel the stories behind the passionate minds at IDA Foundation, it’s time to introduce you to Agathe Masson, an Excellence Specialist dedicated to making a positive impact in global health. Let’s delve into Agathe’s world beyond IDA, her journey within the organization, and her pivotal role in shaping the NCDconnect platform.

Q: Can you share a bit about your background, where you’re from, and your experience with IDA so far?

A: Originating from Normandy, France, I embarked on a journey 15 years ago to explore different cultures abroad. My association with IDA Foundation spans 5 years, initially as a Procurement Services Officer managing order fulfilment for our tuberculosis program with StopTB. In 2022, I transitioned into my current role as an Excellence Specialist. Here, my focus revolves around identifying gaps in the global health ecosystem, developing solutions, and optimising internal processes to ensure efficient delivery of medicines and medical supplies. This journey led me to the heart of the NCDconnect project.

Q: Agathe, what are your go-to activities outside of IDA? Any favourite pastimes or family traditions?

A: I find joy in the simplicity of life. Whenever possible, I prioritise spending quality time with my family, even though they reside 800 km away. On a regular day, you’ll find me relishing good food with friends or letting off some steam either at the gym or dancing away at techno parties.

Q: What is your role on the NCDconnect platform, and what does the process involve for you?

A: On the NCDconnect platform, I wear multiple hats. My primary role involves analysing the market and demand in LMICs, and discerning gaps that IDA can address. This goes beyond current challenges; it’s about anticipating future needs. Based on our research, I collaborate with the team to curate the right portfolio of NCD medicines and medical devices. Additionally, I play a vital role in managing marketing and social media communications for NCDconnect. It’s not just about creating awareness; it’s about fostering meaningful connections and partnerships to positively impact healthcare accessibility.

Q: What drives your passion for working in the field of global health?

A: Understanding different perspectives has been crucial in my decision to work in global health. I acknowledge my privilege in being born in a wealthy country, enjoying a comfortable home, pursuing my desired education, and having access to healthcare. Given my circumstances, I feel a responsibility to contribute, even if it’s in a small way, to those who haven’t had the same opportunities.

Q: What goals do you have for the NCDconnect platform, and what impact do you hope to achieve through your work?

A: We’re well aware of the rising prevalence of NCDs, especially in low- and middle-income countries (#LMICs), and it demands concrete solutions. With NCDconnect, my aim is to facilitate the procurement of NCD health products. My ultimate goal is to make screening accessible to the population and ensure those living with NCDs receive the necessary treatments. While NCDconnect isn’t the silver bullet for all global health supply chain challenges, it does tackle one of the essential initial steps. My hope is that this effort ripples down directly to the population, that is how we would make a meaningful impact.

Stay tuned as we continue to unveil more narratives from the dedicated individuals shaping the NCDconnect landscape. 😊
